Marginal Adaptation of Hybrid Ceramic Occlusal Veneers with two Preparation Designs on Different Dental Substrates

Abstract
Recent developments in ceramic technology and evolutionary treatment methods have all increased the predictability of all ceramic restorations. preservation of a healthy set of natural teeth for each patient should be the objective of every dentist. Likewise, loss of even a part of a human tooth should be regarded as a serious injury. The maintenance of tooth structure so as to not compromise the structural integrity of the tooth allows us to provide a better service to our patients. Posterior occlusal veneers have been demonstrated as a conservative alternative to traditional onlays and complete coverage crowns for the treatment of mechanical loss of coronal tooth structure. The introduction of polymer infiltrated ceramics to the dental field opened new design and application limits of all ceramic restorations allowing a minimum thickness of the restorations. Esthetics and resistance to fracture are two of the main determinants of the success of a restoration; the third is marginal adaptation. The marginal fit of restorations is of particular interest and is a quality criteria for the evaluation of dental restorative materials. A method for determining the marginal fit is to measure the marginal gap, i.e. the distance between the restoration margin and preparation margin.
