Advanced Treatment Planning Techniques in Radiotherapy for Prostate Cancer
Noha Abdelsalam Hamed Elgazar;
Abstract
This study aim to compare the planning efficiency between three dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT), intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) techniques. In this study we used re-identified CT data sets for 18 cancer prostate patients that had been previously treated at Oncology Department, Ain Shams University Hospitals with Three Dimensional Conformal Radiotherapy (3DCRT). We intended to evaluate the differences between the outcomes in three different treatment techniques.
The Dose Volume Histogram (DVH)for organ at risk and target were compared among all plans, The obtained results showed that 3DCRT, IMRT and VMAT plans had achieved good sparing and lowest dose of critical organ in all pelvis groups. The dose in head of femur was lower in both VMAT and IMRT than 3DCRT in all pelvis groups.
In 3DCRT techniques, plans were created by multiple different beam directions were chosen. All studied groups had achieved good coverage of dose distribution, physical evaluation which calculated quality factor to all plans to found 3DCRT7 field is the highest value and calculated Critical Organ Scoring Index (COSI) and Modified Critical Organ Scoring Index (MCOSI) for organ at risk.
In IMRT techniques, plans were created by multiple different beam directions were chosen according to equal beam sparing and beam angle optimizing. All studied groups had achieved good coverage of dose distribution, physical evaluation which calculated quality factor to all plans to found IMRT7fields is the highest value and calculated Critical Organ Scoring Index (COSI) and Modified Critical Organ Scoring Index (MCOSI) for organ at risk.
