Abstract

When gasoline had lead in it, the sites around a heavily traveled roadway got four to five tons of lead dust dumped annually from car exhausts. The result is a very, very large reservoir of bioavailable lead in the soil which represent a very important environmental hazard, as its half-life in soil is about
1000 years. Lead could decrease lymphocyte number. Lymphocytes form the core of the human immune system, which function to protect the body against infection or engraftment by foreign organisms or tissue and possibly against tumor development.
