UPGRADING EXISTING WTPs TO OVERCOME POLLUTION IN WATER STREAMS

MAHMOUD MOHAMED SAEED EL KHOULY;

Abstract

To conduct this study, an experimental pilot plant was located at the laboratory of sanitary engineering – Ain Shams University and operated for several months from (November 2015 – May 2016).
It was suggested to set up a pretreatment unit in the same manner as the experimental pilot plant that can be able to remove (26.15 %) from T.D.S. (88.89%) from COD, (100 %) from BOD, and (100 %) from Nitrates.
In addition, the researcher made several experimental Jar Testing using (PAC) in addition with (Alum) and concluded that the optimum dose of (PAC) was (4 ppm) in addition to (Alum) dose (25 ppm).
Thus, we can reduce aluminum compounds which have harmful effect on human health, more over (PAC) enhance removing the organic pollutants, which react with post chlorination and form trihalomethanes (chloroform and other chlorine by-products) which have carcinogenic effect.
