Abstract
This study included 36 patients presented to Sohage Faculty of
Medicine with signs and symptoms of stroke. Their age ranged from
28 to 80 years with mean age was 56.7± 14.8 years(mean±SD). 19 of them were females (52.8% ),while males were 17 (47.2% ).
History was taking for the patients regarding smoking ,DM
,hypertension and TIAs .Clinical examination was done stressing the cardiovascular system.For all patients ECG B, high resolution CT head scan and echocardiography were done. In echocardiography calculation left ventricular mass index for estimation of left ventricular hypertrophy was done.
Hypertension was present in 27 cases (75%).DM was present in l3• cases (36.1 %). Increased incidence of lacunar infarction was observed withDM.
