ASSISTED VENTILATION lN NEONATES WITH RESPIRTORY DISORDERSS

RANDA TAWFIK GEORGY;

Abstract

Respiratory disorders are the commonest cause of serious neonatal illness and death. Accurate diagnosis and management are therefore imperative (Bell and Tubman, 1998).

A better outcome of these disorders IS due to advances m management (Greenough eta/., 1996).

Assisted ventilation defined as the movement of gas into and out of lung by an external source connected directly to the patient (Goldsmith and Karotkin, 1996).

The purpose of assisted ventilation is to provide alveolar ventilation, carbon dioxide removal, adequate oxygenation and reduction of the work of breathing (Richardson, 1991).

Assisted ventilation may range from small increase in fraction of inspired oxygen to mechanical ventilation. The goal is to optimize both gas exchange and clinical status (Riggsand and Lister, 1987).

Aim of the work:

The aim of this work is to throw light on the role of assisted ventilation in different respiratory problems in neonatal period.
