Utility of Activated Esters and Nitriles in Synthesis of Heterocyclic Compounds

Abstract
N-(5-(cyanomethyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl) cinnamamidewasprepared and its proclivity towards electrophilic reagents such as aromatic aldehydes, carbon disulphide, phenyl isothiocyanate and nucleophilic reagents such as hydrazine hydrate and hydrazides were investigated. Also, the reactivity of arylidenemalononitrile towards the anions of some phenolic compounds such as phloroglucinol and pyridazin-3,6-diol were investigated with the aim of synthesis of polyfunctionally substituted heteroaromatic compounds.
