The condition of cleft palate has been recorded for centuries as one of the famous congenital malformation that disables many children all over the world .

Many problems are associated with cleft palate , eg.feeding problems due to inability to build up negative pressure needed to accomplish normal suckling Articulation disorders of varying degrees of severity occur in cleft patients due to lack of velopharyngeal competence resulting in inadequate oral pressure for production of normal speech . Also otitis media with effusion is well recognized due to Eustachian tube dysfunction Orthodontic problems are due to reduction in the maxillary and premaxillary size and position .

Because a compeletly sat isfactory method for surgical treatment is still unavailable , it is not surprising that new approaches have evolves in recent years. Many surgical procedures are used to correct the condition including von - Langen beck 's palatoplasty , Wardill V-Y flap , Dorrance
