The Clinical Use of Cytogentics in Hematological Malignancies and Related Disorders

Hesham Kamal Habeeb;

Abstract

Hematological neoplasms are heterogenous group of diseases with diverse morphological , immunophenotypic and clinical characteristics

The cytogenetic abnormalities can be characterized as changes involving chromosome number or chromosome structure.
M onosomy 7 and trisomy 8 are two of the most common numerical a bnormalities in hematological neoplasia.
The study aimed at studying the lineage involved by the monosomy 7

and the trisomy 8

The work was performed on 10 patients at diagnosis before initiating therapy : 4 patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
1 patient with solitary bone plasmacytoma.

1 patient with acute non-lymphoblastic leukemia

1 patient with acute lymphoblastic leukemia

2 patients with chronic myeloid leukemia

1 patient with chronic lymphatic leukemia

There was only one case which has AML that had the monosomy 7, mean while only one case which has ALL that had the trisomy 8

The current study suggests that , monosomy 7 is present only in the myeloid lineages and not present in lymphoproliferative disorders.
