Vaginoscopic Versus Conventional Office Hysteroscopy: A Prospective Randomized Controlled Study
Ahmed Fathy Mansour EL Kamesy;
Abstract
The popularity of office hysteroscopy is steadily increasing. The main limitation to widespread use of diagnostic hysteroscopy was pain and low patient tolerance. Sources of pain during conventional approach include insertion of the speculum, application of the tenaculum to the cervix and its traction. Bettocchi and Selvaggi avocated the vaginoscopic approach for diagnostic hysteroscopy avoiding the introduction of the speculum and the application of the tenaculum to the cervix seemed to reduce patient discomfort.
The aim of this study was to compare the conventional hysteroscopic approach with the vaginoscopic approach as regard patient's tolerability,acceptability and satisfaction.
A two hundred women were recruited from Unit of Hysteroscopy. The cases were randomly allocated for conventional hysteroscopic approach or vaginoscopic approach (100 patients each).
