Abstract

In this work 40 patients with clinically evident varicocele divided into 2 groups were studied for comparison of the open surgical technique (Palomo's approach, inguinal approach and transcrotal ligation of the varicocele) versus laparoscopic approach for ligation the internal spermatic . vein "ISV"..

The patients of open surgical group (group A) operated under spinal or general anathesia and postoperative sensation of pain and need of analgesic was less due to short operative time. They discharged at the
•second day and return normal activity within 8 days.

The patients of laparoscopic group needed general anasthesia and there was need for strong analgesia due to long operative time inspite there were less complications rather than the group A and rapid return to normal activity.

Both group has the same effect on the improvement of semen parameter and relieve of pain.

Our conclusion is open surgical technique still the cornerstone in the treatment of varicocele and by time the increase of the experience of laparoscopic technique may share it especially in bilateral cases and in concurrent with other surgical problem.
