MULTIFREQUENCY TYMPANOMETRY AFTER MYRINGOPLASTY WITH INTACT MOBILE OSSICULAR CHAIN

Safaa Mahmoud Mohamed Dawaba;

Abstract

This work was performed to study the multi frequency_ changes after myringoplasty with intact mobile ossicular chain. The aim of this work was to compare single versus multifrequency tympanometry in the study of middle ear transmission characteristics after successful myringoplasty with intact mobile vibrating normal ossicular chain.

Our subjects were selected from patients presenting to ENT clinic of the Alexandria Main University Hospital. The study included 30 patients suffering from dry perforation of the tympanic membrane with no ossicular involvement.

The subjects were exposed to the following:

1. Preoperative evaluation based on: full history taking,' otological examination, pure tone audiometry, evaluation of Eustachian function by Valsava, Politzer, x-ray paranasal sinuses.
2. Paper patching of the TM perforation: followed by estimation of pure tone audiometry and monofrequency tympanometry.
3. Operative data concerning: the mobility, continuity of the ossicular chain and technique of surgery (overlay or underlay).
4. Postoperative evaluation: 3 and 6 months postoperatively based on

pure tone audiometry, mono& multifrequency tympanometry.
