ASSESSMENT AND PREDICTION OF PREGNANCY OUTCOME IN RECURRENT SPONTANEOUS FIRST TRIMESTER • MISCARRIAGE. ULTRASOUND, VAGINAL DOPPLER AND BIOCHEMICAL STUDIES

Hazem Salah El Din El Ashmawi;

Abstract

Spontaneous abortion is the most common complication of pregnancy

& is responsible for significant emotional distress to couples desiring children. Approximately 70% of hwnan conceptions fail to achieve viability
& an estimated 50 % are lost before the first missed menstrual period

(Edmond et all982).

Most of these pregnancy losses •are tinrecogriized. Recent studies using sensitive assays for human chorionic gonadotropins (hCG) have indicated that the actual rate of pregnancy loss after implantation is 31%.

The aim of this work was to study the relation between normal ultrasonographic findings of the fetus, gestational sac• and uterine cervix together with the uteroplacental and wnbilical circulations, and to correlate these findings with biochemical analysis represented by serum HCG,
. progesterone and CAI25. Also to develop a method for prognosis and prediction of pregnancy ouicome in cases with recurrent I" trimesteric miscarriages and to determine the possible etiological cause in cases with discontinued pregnancies.
