PHASE CLOMIPHENE CITRATE AND METFORMIN IN CASES OF CLOMIPHENE CITRATE RESISTANT POLYCYSTIC OVARY SYNDROME

Abstract


The present study was designed to evaluate the effect of combinations of luteal phase clomiphene citrate and metformin on ovulation induction in patients with PCOS who are resistant to clomiphene citrate.
This study was a randomized controlled clinical trial conducted in Ain shams University Maternity Hospital at the Infertility Outpatient Clinic on 200 infertile women aged 20-40 years old with the diagnosis of PCOS who were clomiphene citrate resistant.
All women were subjected to personal, past, and family history, physical examination, we also measured FSH, LH, FSH:LH ratio, AMH, prolactin, TSH, AMH, HOMA-IR, as well as we performed transvaginal folliculometry starting from day 10 from the first day of menses on days 10, 12, 14 of the cycle to determine the follicular growth (number and size).
One hundred of our patients received clomiphene citrate 100mg in luteal phase starting five day before expected day of the menstrual cycle and metformin 500mg three times daily, the another one hundred received clomiphene citrate 100mg in follicular phase starting on day 2 for 5 days and metformin 500mg three times daily.
