Assessment of Pulmonary Functions in School Students in Shubra District

Abstract


This study was a cross-sectional study aimed to assess spirometric pulmonary functions in Egyptian preparatory school students, in Shubra Elkheima region, AlKaliobia governorate., and to reveal if there is correlation between any risk factor and pulmonary function impairment.
Location of study "Shobra Elkheima" was chosen because it is considered one of the important industrial areas in Egypt; there are many industries as Iron and Steel, Spinning and Weaving, Vehicles, Cement, Chemicals, Oil refineries, Fertilizers, Bricks, Ceramics, Metal Industries and Foundries.
The present study was carried out on two hundred female children attended preparatory school in Shobra Elkheima with age of 11to16 years old and the mean age was (13.41) years.
All studied students were subjected to interview respiratory questionnaires including Socio-demographic data including (Student's age, sex, educational level, income level, average size of the student's family).
Environment exposure to (2nd hand smoking-presence of pets at home-living beside factories-living in main road-living beside coffee shop)
Symptoms of chest disease (Frequency and severity of the symptoms, time and seasons at which the symptoms begin, other problems associated with the student's symptoms).
