SIMULATING OF A DIRECT CURRENT' MACHINE BY ACTIVE. CIRCUITS

Abstract


Real time simulators are valuable tools for power system studies. They are useful for investigating the power system problems and suitable for . studying the transient behaviour of complex systems.



The DC machine is one link of the chain of the power system. As a link, • the machine is influenced by the rest of the chain and in tum influence the behaviour of the whole system.



In this thesis, the simulation of the DC machine is achieved through several ways. In the first, the mathematical models of all types of the DC machine are developed. These models accow1t for magnetic saturation. The TUTSIM simulation prOhlTam tool is used to validate such models.



In the second method, a full representation of all types of the DC machine including saturation effects is possible via electronic circuits. The nonlinear differential equation of the machine are solved in .analogue manner. All parameters and time constants are easily controlled. Experimental tests are carried out on the active model of the separately-excited machine. The results are compared with those obtained from the digital model and the actual machine.
