Genetic Studies on Yield and its Components in Canola
Mohamed Wheed Shawky Ahmed Mahmoud;
Abstract
The present investigation. had been carried out at Shandaweel Experimental Farm during 2000/2001, 2001/2002 and 2002/2003 seasons for two purposes; first to evaluate and study the genetic variability among
28 canola genotypes and second to analyze the genetic system and types of gene effects involved in the control of yield and its attributes in canola, as well as the levels of heterosis. For the second purpose, six generations model was employed for five crosses obtained among five canola (Brassica napus L.) genotypes. The results obtained could be summarized as follows:
1- Genetic variability in canola:
1- Days to 50% flowering:
The analysis of variance showed highly significant differences among the 28 canola genotypes in the two seasons and combined analysis. Over the two seasons mean, the exotic genotype no. 20 was to earliest exotic one and recorded 68.00 days. Moreover, Serw 2 was the earliest local one and recorded 88.00 days. In general, all genotypes were earlier in first year than second year except genotype no. 10.
2- Plant height:
Significant differences were found in both and over seasons. Over the two seasons, local Serw 2 was the shortest (173.33 em) whereas Serw
6 was the highest (197.50 em) one.
