Preinduction Cervical Ripening: A Comparison of Misoprostol (PGE1),. Dinoprostone (PGE2) and Foley Catheter

Abstract


It is of controversy, what agent is the best for cervical ripening when induction of labour is indicated.


The purpose of this study is to make a comparison of three methods of cervical ripening : intra vaginal PGE2, pinoprostone suppositories (Prostine E2), intravaginal PGl misoprostol tablets (cytotec) and intra cervical Foley's catheter to evaluate their efficacy and safety as it may advice cheap and available alternatives of the expensive dinoprostone.


Seventy five patients with indications for induction of labour and unfavorable cervices, were randomly selected and
25 of them were assigned to receive intra vaginal dino
prostone (3 mg) another 25 patients were assigned to receive intra vaginal misoprostol (50 micrograms, repeated once if needed) and Foley's catheter were introduced intracervically in 25 patients.
