Evaluation of miR-96 and miR- 155 expression in breast cancer

Shaimaa Mohamed Mohamed Mohamed;

Abstract

Breast cancer is the most common cancer worldwide for females, and the 2nd most common cancer overall (Ferlay et al., 2013). miRNAs may be exploited as a new kind of molecular markers for follow up of breast cancer (Zeng et al., 2014).
This study was carried out at medical biochemistry Department, in collaboration with General surgery Department, Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, and was approved by the research ethical committee of Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University during the years (2013-2014). The study included 58 female.
Participants were classified into two groups.
Group A, consisted of thirty eight females with histopathologicaly confirmed malignant breast tumors. Breast cancer patients underwent either breast conserving surgery or modified radical mastectomy. Patients who had received any chemotherapy or radiation therapy before surgery or who had rheumatic disease, acute infection, or other types of cancer were excluded from the current study. Clinical staging of breast cancer was performed according to TNM classification (AJCC, 2010).
