AYA MOHAMMED FATTOUH AHMED;

Abstract

Nutritional deficiency of vitamin D is a common problem in developing countries as a result of inadequate diet as well as little exposure to ultraviolet light. It is the classical type of calciopenic form of rickets. Reduction in serum calcium level may affect ventricular function. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the left ventricular function in a group of 30 infants diagnosed as having rickets, in the age group from (5m- 18m ), presenting to the New Pediatric Hospital ( Aboul Rich ). 25 healthy infants were taken as control for the echocardiographic studies. Patients were divided into three groups according to the biochemical classification of rickets.
