Abstract

Deltamethrin is one of the potent type II pyrethroids. It is commonly used as an insecticide against a wide variety of insect species.

The present study was designed to determine the median lethal dose (LD50) and the toxic effects of deltamethrin including the clinical signs, some biochemical parameters of liver and Kidney function tests,
blood picture and histopathology of internal organs (liver, Kindney, brain, lung, spleen, heatt, testis).

l) Acute toxicity study:
A total number of 30 rats weighing 95 ± 5 g each, were divided into five groups, 6 rats each. Four groups of them were administered
deltamethrin at different doses (0.17, I, 6, 36 mg/kg b. w. respectively),

while the 51

group was kept as a control group. The clinical signs,

mortalities and gross lesions where recorded through 'out the experimental period.

A) The median lethal dose (LDsot

The determined LD50 was 6 mg/kg b. w. of deltamethrin.

8) Clinical signs:

The most important clinical signs recorded on rats were profuse salivation, weakness, ataxia, tremors and convulsions (choreoahetosis), dyspnoea and rolling.
