STUDY OF SMOKING HABITS IN SOLDIERS OF POLICE ACADEMY

Abstract


This is a survey study (in the form of questionnaire) of the smoking habits among the soldiers of police academy and their attitudes towards smoking.
This study included a random sample of 200 soldiers (90 smokers and 110 are nonsmoker).their age ranges from 19 to 23 years.
From that survey the following were obtained:
- Prevalence of smoking habit was 45%.
- Duration of smoking ranged from 1 to 10 years.
- Most of the smokers were cigarettes smokers .
- Most of the smokers were smoking for relaxation.
- Most of the smokers started smoking cigarettes at the age of 16 – 20 years.
- Most of them start smoking cigarettes with friends.
- Most of the smokers smoked with tea coffee.
-Most of shisha smokers started smoking at the age of 16-20 years.
- Most of shisha smokers preferred cafe as a place for smoking.
-Most of the goza smokers started smoking at the age of 16-20 years.
-All goza smokers started smoking with a friend .
- All smoker shisha smokers and goza smokers smoke it occasionally.
- Most of the smokers wanted to quit smoking.
-The main reason for wanting to quit smoking was caring about their health.
-Most of them tried at least once in the last year.
- 35.6% of smokers thought it was very easy to quit smoking while 17.8% think that it was very difficult.
- 44.7% of smokers wanting to quit had the fear of becoming tense and nervous in the quitting period.
- 62.2% of smokers suffered from sputum production.
- All soldiers consider their health good.
- 68.4% of smoker thought that self motivation could help them in their quitting trials.
