SERUM INTERLEUKIN-13 IN CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS WITH TYPE-1 DIABETES MELLITUS AND/OR ATOPY

Abstract


T
he increased prevalence of TID in children and adolescents with its complications especially micro-vascular ones pushing us to search how to stop or at least postpone the progression of the disease and its complications.
So the aim of the study was to assess the level of serum IL-13 level in children and adolescents with T1 D with or without atopy and compare it with serum IL-13 in patients with atopy and in normal subjects as well.
Also finding out the relation between serum IL-13 level , the duration of diabetes and its glycemic control and the severity of atopy in atopic diabetic patients or in patients with bronchial asthma.
This study comprised 76 children and adolescents following up in the children’s hospital, Ain Shams University. They were subdivided into 4 groups.
• Group I: Comprised 20 patients with T1D.
• Group II: Comprised 16 patients with T1D with atopy.
• GroupШ: Comprised 20 patients with atopy.
