EXTENDED METABOLIC SCREENING IN PATIENTS WITH CEREBRAL PALSY

Abstract
The present study was designed to screen for some of the inborn errors of metabolism in patients with cerebral palsy to determine prevalence of these disorders in these patients. Furthermore, the study willpointout clinical syndromes of these patients.
The study included 100 children diagnosed as having cerebral palsy, following in the pediatric neurology clinic with no definitive documented known cause of its incidence, below six years of age with the exclusion of patients already investigated for inborn errors of metabolism, those with definite history of intracranial infections or hemorrhage, birth asphyxia, prematurity and kernicterus.
In the present study, subjects were subjected to full history taking regarding perinatal and neonatal insults, developmental history, seizures, history of consanguinity, complete detailed and disease scenario since diagnosis of cerebral palsy, detailed general and neurological examination.
