EVALUATION OF RADIOCHEMICAL PURITY OF THE COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE 99Mo- 99m Tc GENERATORS ELUTES A COMPARATIVE STUDY

Ali Gad El-Rab Abd Alia;

Abstract

This study includes evaluation of the elutes obtained from fifty two 99Mo - 99m Tc generators used is nuclear medicine studies delivered over 18 months duration aiming at Study of

radiochemical purity of 99

Tc elutes of commercial generator.

Comparison between different generatoriis.
Study of different factors that affect 99

Tc elutes quality

control e.g(time volume of eluent fluids frequency of elution). Generators were eluted daily up to 14 days and the elutes were evaluated for pH aluminum breakthrough radiochemical purity and 95% activity volume and the results obtained were compared to the standard specification.
Three to five ml saline volume .is sufficient for obtaining the 95% expected activity .Moreover the pH is within normal values ranges over the 7 days duration compared to the standards specification .
On the other hand the radiochemical purity is within
normal ranges of the standards. However 99Mo content I
injected dose increased significantly over time. And exceed the permissible level in day 11,12,13,14 elutes especially if the injected dose is high So we can recommend and conclude that the use of 99mTc elute up to 10 days post arrival and freshly prepared elution with 3-5 ml volume will be within the permissible standard and allow obtaining a good quality image with low radiation exposure to the patient as advised by AL ARA principles
