Infection Control In Dental Clinics: Policies And Procedures

Abstract
Infection control practices eliminate sources of infection and help protect patients and health team from senous life threatening microorganisms as "HBV", "HCV" and "HIV". The main goal of infection control in the dental clinic's is to prevent cross contamination of serious, life-threatening and debilitating disease. In light ofthe potential danger of disease transmission in dental clinic in our country a set of policies and procedures for infection control regarding biosafety requirements and practices must be available and familiar to all DHCM's.
The present study was aimed to develop policies and procedure for infection control in dental clinics and test its validity and applicability.
The study was conducted on 93 DHCM's working m 5 dental clinics at 5 different hospitals (63 dentists,
16 nurses, 5 hospital aids, 9 housekeepers) in addition to 10 administrative authorized personnels from the same hospital to test the validity and applicability of the developed policies and procedure.
The data collected from dental clinics at El Demerdash hospital, Nasr City, Boulack El-Aam, Dar El-Shafa and Ain Shams Specialized hospital at period from May to September, 1998.
