Evaluation of the Effect of Different Denture Base Materials on All-on-4 Implant Retained Maxillary Overdenture (Strain Gauge Analysis)

Heba Ahmed Eweda;

Abstract

This study was conducted to comparing Bio HPP material to acrylic resin material using strain gauge regarding stresses falling on Implants supporting structures in ALL on 4® protocol.
Acrylic model was constructed to simulate completely edentulous maxilla .Four implants were placed two vertically in the anterior region and two angled implants by 300 in the posterior region. The test model used in this study was fabricated utilizing 3D printing technology.
Four strain gauges were installed, on the distal aspect and labial aspects of the last implants on each side of the model to record the strain induced by the loads applied on both overdentures.
A special loading device was used to apply standardized static vertical unilateral, bilateral and oblique loads on the upper sixes areas. Where the microstrains were recorded for each strain gauge.
Data was collected, tabulated and statistically analyzed to to compare the BioHPP material to acrylic resin material using strain gauge regarding stresses falling on implants supporting on ALL on 4 protocol.
This study revealed statistically significant difference between the BioHPP overdenture and conventional acrylic overdenture regarding the stresses transmitted to the implants. It was found that BioHPP overdenture transmitted more stresses than the conventional acrylic overdenture when vertical unilateral and bilateral loads were applied.
