Echocardiographic Assessment of Left Ventricular Performance in Thyrotoxicosis
Ahmed Lotfy Mahmoud, M.B.B.Ch;
Abstract
Fifteen thyrotoxic patients (9 females + and 6 males) with increased serum T3 & T4 were included in this study. Clinical evidence of thyrotoxicosis was based on elevated serum T3 & T4 levels by means of radioimmunoassay. Also fifteen controls were included (8 females + and
7 males).
All thyrotoxic patients and controls were in sinus rhythm.
Full medical history and clinical examination were done, then echocardiography was done for all.
The left ventricular end-diastolic (LVED, ml) and end-systolic (LVES, ml) volumes, left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF, %), left ventricular mass index (g/m2), E/A ratio, body mass index (BMI, kg/nl) and cardiac output were measured.
7 males).
