Hisham Mohamed Hosny AbdEl Rahman;
Abstract
Diabetes Mellitus is the most common endocrinal disease with a prevalence between 1-2% of global population, causing a major health problem and financial burden in as many countries of the world because of it's disabling complications.
Diabetic retinopathy is one of the leading causes of blindness in many developed and underdeveloped countries. Although type II (NIDDM) is by far the commonest type constituting about 90% of all diabetics, yet Type I (LD.D.M.) is a great threat to vision being occurring at a younger age and causing an aggressive vision threatening proliferative disease.
The introduction of laser photocoagulation and pars plana vitrectomy has altered the natural course of proliferative diabetic retinopathy significantly. However it continues to be a major threat to vision with its blinding complications.
The aim of this study was to evaluate an earlier and more aggressive treatment of diabetic retinopathy in patients with type I (ID.D.M).
