Abstract

Eighty samples of stored whel!t grains for human consumption were collected during 1999-2000 from three different types of storage: bin-storage, jute-sacks storage and farmer houses storage.

2- The bin-stored grains (37 samples) were imported from some American and European countries.

3- Jute-sacks (8 samples) and farmer houses-stored grains (35 samples) were locally produced in Egypt and Republic of Yemen.

4- The present study focused towards studying three objectives viz: a) mycobiota of the samples, b) mycotox:ins either naturally occurred in the samples or produced by isolates collected from these samples and c) grain quality.

5- The mycobiota of these samples were investigated using direct plating technique on glucose-Czapek's agar medium containing 6.0% NaCl.

6- In total, 117 fungal species in addition to 6 varieties belonging to 3 I genera could be isolated.

7- Aspergi /Ius species dominated the mycobiota with 4815 isolates followed by Pencillium spp. with 2866 isolates. The
