Eman Farouk Khaleel;

Abstract

This study was done to investigate the role of endothelin in relation to hormone replacement therapy in ovariectomized hypertensive rats.

This study was performed on 70 female albino rats which were divided into 7 groups ea<:h group consisted of I 0 rats. The first group was control group. The second group consisted of ovariectomized rats, the third group included the ovariectomized rats which were given hormonal replacement therapy in the form of estradiol benzoate in a dose of(O.lmg/kg) daily and injected intraperitonealy for 3 weeks, a week after ovariectomy. The fourth group was the group of induced hypertension by unilateral renal artery ligation (I clip 2 kidney technique). The fifth group was the group of induced hypertension and given estradiol benzoate in the same dose for 3 weeks after one week from induction of hypertension. The sixth group consisted of rats subjected to ovariectomy and induced hypertension. The seventh group was the group of ovariectomy and induced hypertension injected intraperitonealy with estradiol benzoate in a dose of (O.lmg/kg) daily for 3 weeks after a week from ovariectomy and hypertension.

In previous groups, endothelin level, cholesterol, LDL - C, HDL - C and blood pressure measurement by rat tail method were done.
