Abstract


. Phosphorus is a major component of the mineral phase of bone and cells, and is involved in almost all metabolic processes.



The normal range for phosphorus is 2.5-4.5 mg/dl in adults and is higher in children and women after menopause.


The hemostasis of phosphate is controlled by the parathyroid hormone, I, 25 cholicalciferol and calcitonin and involves intestine, kidney and bone.


The essay discuss causes, effects, treatment and anaesthetic considerations of both hypo and hyperphosphataemia
