Computer-Aided Diagnostic Tools for Dental Radiograph

Eman Mohamed Saied Mohamed Khier Dieb;

Abstract

Radiographic image processing is a very important 1ssuc 111 medicine and dentistry. The dentists olicn examine the radiographs by vision. However in certain situations. it is required to obtain some calculations that may help the dentist in decision making. These calculations may be based on multiple numbers of images as in case of evaluating the alloimplant materials and their acting in bone healing. So for the decision to be trusted, the 1magc must be taken under the same conditions which cannot be completely achieved.

The aim of this work is to design an image processing tool box that is intended to help the dentist in their work. This tool box will be able to capture the images and applying the usual image preprocessing techniques such as noise removal, image enhancement and dimension-related calculations. Image calibration will be an important item in our tool box. This is strongly required when comparing many images, to be able to say that the images were taken at the same conditions. Also, we w\11 introduce image compression techniques to facilitate the process of image transfer through the networks
