Abstract


Purpose:
The current investigati on aims to stud y the nutr ient requirements for some economic crops; as sugar beet, broad bean and ba rl ey grown on som e va ri ed soi l s.


Methods:
Pot experim ents were conducted during 1999-2000 season using sugar beet, broad bean an d barley plants. The in vestigated treatments are: nitrogen fertili zat i on (urea at
1 50 kg/fedd a n), chicken manure (6 ton/fedda n) and a
mi xture of th em with th e sam e rates of app licat i on. The used soi I portions were di vided into two major groups;
l eached and unleached. The experimenta l design was a
complete ra ndomized system w ith five replicates. Pl ant sa mpl es were collected after 60, 90 a nd 1 20 d ays of pl. anting. The para meters of the in vesti ga ted pl a nts we re determined.


F indings:
l . The loamy soil (Motobus) was more sui table med i a for the growth of sugar beet and broad bea n pl a nts th a n th e sand y l oa m soil (S idi Sa l em ), w hi ch was more suitable for barley pl ant growth.
