AN EXPERIMENTAL AND CLINICAL STUDY COMPARING THE EFFECTS OF CTREOTIDE, ONDANSETRON,AND OPIOIDS TO EXPLAIN THE MECHANISM OF POST-NEUROLYTIC CELIAC PLEXUS BLOCK DIARRHOEA

Abstract

(Receptors pharmacological in-vivo & in-vitro studies were carried out on the intestine of both normal and abstinent rabbits) where five animals were used for each experiment which include:- Demonesteration of dose-response effects of octreotide and ondansetrone; interactions of both drugs with intestinal stimulants and inhibitory drugs and lastly determination of their site of action on intestines of both in-vivo and in-vitro normal and . abstinent animals.

(The results showed that both drugs produce mainly increase in tone of intestinal contractions, with various effects on frequency and amplitude of intestinal contraction) In-vitro experiments-especially in normal rabbits intestine-showed normal pattern effects including increase in tone, decrease in frequency and increase in amplitude of contractions, but irregularities in this pattern were observed mainly in abstinent rabbits especially in in-vivo experiments. These effects were in most experiments dose-independent
