ASSESSMENT OF NUTRITIONAL STATUS FOR CONSTRUCTION LABOURERS IN MENOUFIA GOVERNORATE

Abstract


This work was conducted to shed light on the nutritional status of constriction labourers at Menoufia governorate which is a very important sigment of Egyptian labourers, due to the ceaseless development of constructive activities all over the country, particularly out of great Cairo, as in southern valley and delta. A total number of 150 constructive labourers (122 of rural and 28 at urban) composed the sample of present work. Suitable questionnaire with proper rolls were designed and used to collect socioeconomic characteristics, nutrients intakes via 24 hours recall (repeated for 7 days) and food consumption pattern. Blood samples were obtained to determine the level of hemoglobin. All data was subjected for statistical analysis.
The results arrived at could be summarized in the following:
Residing site and socioeconomic factor.

1- According to age, construction labourers could be divided into 3 groups in the first (< 25 years of age, 22% of total sample) equal percentages were recorded for rural (22.1% of groups) and urban (21 .4% of group); for the second (25 - < 40 years of age, 54% of total group sample), percent of labourers was higher at urban (71.4% of group) than rural (50% of group); while for the third(> 40 years of age, 24% of total sample) percent of labourers was evidently higher at rural (27.9% of group) thanurban(7.1%onlyofgroup). Therefore most of labourers was at 25 and more years of age (78% of total sample); older ones ( > 40 years ) tended to be more a rural.
