Comparison Between the Effect of Pulpotec and Effect of Calcium Hydroxide Dressings on Interappointement Pain Relief for Symptomatic Posterior Teeth withAcutePulpitis and Periodontitis:Randomized Control Trial Part VI
Mariam Rafik Rizkalla;
Abstract
This study was done in order to compare the effect of Pulpotec and Ca(OH)2as intracoronal dressings on inter-appointment pain relief for symptomatic posterior teeth with acute pulpitis with periodontitis.
Results were collected utilizing:
1- Visual Analogue scale (VAS) at different time-intervals;
a- Preoperative.
b- After 8, 12, 24, 48 hours postoperatively.
c- After 1, 3, 6 months.
2- As well as clinical and radiographical follow up after 1,3 and 6 months.
The study was done as a parallel randomized controlled trial. Randomized controlled trial (RCT) is a study in which people are allocated randomly (by chance alone) to receive one of the clinical interventions.
Forty-four participants in this research were assigned to groups, 22 patients in each group, randomly divided into 2 equal groups:
GROUP 1: will receive Pulpotecdressing.
GROUP 2: will receive Ca(OH)2dressing.
Zinc phosphatecement used as base material, andAmalgam as finalfilling material.
All the information has been collected and analyzed statistically.
Results and Conclusions:
As result of this study the following was obtained:
1. The use of both materials, Pulpotec as well as Calcium hydroxide, as intra-coronal dressing after pulpotomy of teeth with acute pulpitis with periodontitis resulted in complete relief of pain equally post-operatively till 48 hours.
2. Pulpotec proved its effectiveness in pain relief for the complete follow up period of the study (six months) in comparison to calcium hydroxide.
3. Pulpotec resulted in preservation of tooth vitality till six months period compared to failure of calcium hydroxide to preserve the tooth vitality.
