STUDY OF ESOPHAGO-GASTRIC MOTILITY AND pH DISTURBANCES IN RELATION TO LIVER CIRRHOSIS
MAHMOUD ABDEL-AZIZ KOURA;
Abstract
To study esophago-gastric motility and pH changes in patients with liver cirrhosis, SO patients (29 males and 21 females) with liver cirrhosis of different causes and I 0 healthy subjects were included in this study.
The patients age ranged from 22 to 65 years with a mean of 44.50 ± 10.33 years, the age of control subjects ranged from
27 to 43 with a mean of 40.3 ± 7.77 years.
According to the aetiology of liver cirrhosis, patients were classified into 3 groups:
• Group I: 1 S patients with schistosoma! hepatic fibrosis.
• Group II: 15 patients with post-hepatitic cirrhosis.
• Group III: 20 patients with mixed schistosoma! and post-hepatitic cirrhosis.
All subjects were evaluated clinically and by laboratory investigations for diagnosis and classification of patients. Clinical evaluation included full history and through physical examination. Laboratory evaluation included the following investigations; urine and stool analysis for evidence of schistosoma ova, complete blood picture "red cell count, total and differentiaJ•Jeucocytic count, and platelets count".
