STUDY 0F THE ROLE OF THE POSTERIOR VITREOUS FACF IN THE PATHOGENESIS OF SOl\IE TRACTION-lNDUCED MACULAR DISRODERS

Abstract

•The central position of the vitreous dictates its pi1 oral role in retinal disease. This involvement is mainly mechanical Lc:, through traction. The study represents an effort to quantih• this traction.

The study group consisted of 56 subjects who were compDsnl uf

12 high myopes comprising group 1 (further di1•ided into a group of 6 subjects with no other retinal affection and > norlwr group of
6 with macular ho.le), 24 subjects with diabetic retinoJ'athy were
also included and formed group Jl of the study. The group pf

diabetic retinopathy was further divided into fclllr subgroups according to the stage of diabetic retinopath1•. r\ gmup of 21 l individuals with normal ocular status was subjected t< > the same examination protocol and served as a control group.

This examination protocol was done to define the state of the vitreous in both static and kinetic conditions. ,\ n ;111glc P was measured in cases where traction from partial PVD \\:ts present
