ROLE OF DUPLEX-DOPPLER SONOGRAPHY IN RENAL HAEMODYNAMIC CHANGES IN LIVER DISEASES

Sherif Ibrahim Abbass;

Abstract

Renal involvement with liver disease is a frequent fmding. lt stans in a functional manner with no consistent pathologic changes in the kidney. The acute changes in this ..hepatorenal syndrome" is intense renal vasoconstriction. Many workers have recommended the use of duplex sonography for evaluating this renal haemodynamic change through measurement of the resistive index (Rl) which equals (peak systolic velocity - minimum diastolic velocity/peak systolic velocity).

The aim of this work was to assess the value of duplex Doppler ultrasonography in detecting liver disease related kidney dysfunction. Also to predict renal dysfunction in some cases of chronic liver diseases.

This work was carried out on 80 subjects grouped as follows:
1- Control group (20 cases).

2- Compensated cirrhotic group (20 cases).

3- Ascitic cirrhotic group (20 cases).

4- Ascitic cirrhotic group with renal failure (20 cases).
