Psychiatric Morbidity among College Students – An Egyptian Study

Abstract


ental health among college students represents not only a growing concern but also an opportunity, because of the large number of people who could be reached during an important period of life.
The present study aimed to assess the prevalence of psychiatric disorder of college-age individuals in Egypt due to exposure to high level of stress hence it was important to elaborate this area so as to provide and tailor the psychiatric service needed to meet their needs.
One hundred students were selected from the psychiatric clinic of the students Hospital (Ain Shams University), Every student included in the study was assessed by full history taking, social classification scale, structured clinical interview for DSM-IV Axis I Disorder (SCID-I), perceived Stress Scale (PSS), Social Readjustment Rating Scale for Young (SRRSY).
The results of this study revealed that the highly percentage of the students 43%(n=43) had depression, most of them were females, 17%(n=17) student had Bipolar affective
