Abstract

The Red Sea is characterized by a rich and highly diversified fauna and flora. In spite of presence of a large variety of bony fishes living in and around the coral reefs in the Red Sea, so far,•little is known about the biology of these
fishes.

The family Lethrinidae (order Perciformes) represent one of the most important families in the Egyptian sector of the Red Sea. Lethrinids or emperors are abundant, valuable and economical fish food. Due to the rarity of scientific information on Lethrinus species of the Egyptian sector of the Red Sea and due to the scientific research cooperation between Zoology Department, Assiut University and Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries, Berlin, the present work included two parts"as follows:
A- Lethrinus species from the Red Sea

The present work has been suggested to the rarity of taxonomic and biological information with respect to seven Lethrinus species, L. borbonicus, L. .lentjan, L. mahsena, L. • microdon L. nebulosus, L. variegatus and L. xanthochilus from the Red Sea at Hurghada, Egypt.
In this work more advanced techniques and statistical methods were considered to answer a lot of important questions.
