EFFECT OF THE NURSING MANAGEMENT PROCESS ON THE PATIENT CARE SERVICES IN GENERAL HOSPITALS OF MINISTRY OF HEALTH IN CAIRO

Abstract
This study was conducted to measure the effect of applying the nursing management process on the patient care services in genera hospitals of Ministry of Health in Cairo . The study was carried out on 60 nurse managers from ten general hospital in Cairo. From the same hospitals 50 surgical cases were randomly selected with their files which were audited three times for each patient. Data were collected utilizing three. instruments :- ( 1 ) semi- structured interview sheet ,( 2 ) observation checklist, ( 3 ) auditing check list. The result of the present study revealed that, there was unacceptable level of applying the nursing management process except organizing activities regardless to different hospital sizes. Unacceptable quality of patient care regard surgical services. There was a positive correlation between planning and orgamzmg activities with promote optimal nutrition and hydration status during preoperative period. While there was a negative correlation between controlling activities and review nursing database. There was a positive correlation between organizing •activities and prepare for elimination needs regarding the day before surgery. Regarding the general postoperative care there was a negative correlation between planning activities with promote optimal respiratory function, and high
. negative correlation between organizing activities with providing rest, a negative correlation between controlling activities with nurses attending the endorsement. In relation to the auditing process, there was a positive correlation between organizing activities and availability of formats, a negative correlation between directing activities and all entries were timed, a positive correlation between directing activities with using vital signs sheet and keeping heparin sheet after discharge. Also there was a positive correlation between controlling activities and using of diabetic sheet and negative correlation between controlling activities and documenting patient observation and complains.
