Abstract

Subtrochanteric fracture is defined as fracture between lesser trochanter & isthmus of the femur, others define it as fracture between lesser trochanter
& 7.5 Cm below it. (H)
Boyd & Griffm 1949 '11called attentio
subtrochanteric fracture as a varient of peri trochanteric fracture & noted the high incidence of unsatisfactory results of operative treatment.
These fractures account for lOo/o :15o/o of all hip fracture they have bimodal age distibution with low energy trauma in old age, high energy trauma in young age & usually associated with other injuries & fractures '11 .
Subtrochanteric reg1on is subjected to high bending moment rendering fractures unstable, specially when the medial cortex 1s comminuted.Medial cortex is subjected to high compressive forces ,while lateral cortex is subjected Dynamic Condylar Screw in management of subtrochanteric fracture)
