Abstract


The aim of the present investigation m to study some aspects of physiological behaviour of some desert xerophytes including succulent species i.e. Anabasis setifera, Z. decumhens, Z. coccineum and Z. album,
and nonsucculent xerophytes Launaea spinosa. Ochradenus baccatus.
Lygos raetam, Leptadenia pyrotecnicha and Acacia raddiana. :

The halophytes included succulent species Halocnemon strobilaceum

(stem), Z. album ( stem & leaves ) and Nitratia retusa (leaves), the

• sernisucculent Papilionaceous Taverniera aegyptiaca, the excretors I I
I
Limonium pruinosum and Tamarix nilotica in addition to Allwgi maurorum l l I
: These plants inhabit wadi Hagul, a declining wadi S.W. Gulf of Suez, l

coastal plain and salt macsh.
