ANTITHTROMBIN III iN NEONATES WITH SEPTICAEMIA
HASSAN MOSTAFA MOHAMED;
Abstract
Our study included 19 fullterm neonates with sepsis, 9 fullterm neonates served as controls also our study included 10 preterm neonates with sepsis, I 0 preterm neonates served as controls. All our patients were subjected to full clinical evaluation and the following investigations.
* Complete blood picture as, indicator of sepsis.
* C-reactive protein, also as indicator of sepsis.
* Blood culture, to prove sepsis.
* AT III(%), which represents coagulation inhibitors.
We found 100% had bositive CRP in all term cases with sepsis, with highly significant difference between cases and control (P >0.000 I), also I 00% had positive CRP in all preterm cases with sepsis with highly significant difference between cases and control (P >0.000 I).
Among term cases 7 cases showed normal leucocytic count (36.9%), II cases showed leucocytosis (57.9%) and 1 case showed leucopenia (5.2%), With no signitlcant difference between cases and control (P >0.05), Among preterm cases I case showed leucopenia (I 0%), 6 cases shO\\ ed leucocytosis (60%), 3 cases showed normal leucocytic count (30%), With no significant difference between cases and control (P >0.05).
Immature neutrophils was found in 12 cases of septic term neonates
(63.1 %), with no significant difference between cases and control (P
>0.05), while in preterm cases, immature neutrophils was found in 7 cases (70%), with significant difference between cases and control (P
Thrombocytopenia was found in 7 cases of septic term neonates (36.8%), with no significant difference between cases and control (P >0.05), while in preterm cases, thrombocytopenia was found in 7 cases of septic
preterm neonates (70%), with no signifcant difference between cases and
control (P >0.05).
