artificial cornea (Keratoprosthesis) is introduced through the diseased cornea to act as a window for visual rehabilitation.
This procedure is rceserved for patients with bilateral corneal blindness with no hope for penetrating keratoplasty, It includes the following groups of patients, repeated• graft failures, extensively vascularized oedematous cornea, dry eye syndromes, where there are vascularization and keratinization of the ocular surface in all planes it includes the following, ocular pemphigoid, Stevens-johnson's syndrome, Lyell's syndrome, Sjogren's syndrqme, advanced• stage trachoma, chemical bums, rosacea, keratitis sicca, onchocerciasis.
