Modeling and Performance Evaluation of Asynchronous Transfer Mode Protocols

Nashwa Abdel-Baki Abdel-Latif;

Abstract

This thesis discusses modeling and performance evaluation of ATM protocols with respect to voice and video using Constant Bit Rate (CBR) and Variable Bit Rate (VBR) traffic services. A study of ISDN-ATM Interworking is done using Circuit Emulation Service (CES) and Voice and Telephony over ATM (VTOA). • Design schemes are proposed according to ATM backbone . that is capable of handling Permanent Virtual Circuits (PVCs) only. Simulation study of quality measure of delay encountered with video transmission over ATM in an assumed streamlined configuration. Glitching as a quality measure is studied. Quality degradation is measured using the quality measure produced by Institute of Telecommunications Sciences (ITS).
