Abstract
ychosis is one of the most studied mental health disorders which expresses an impaired relationship with reality. The illness is defined by the presence of positive (i.e., hallucinations, delusions, disorganized thinking) and negative (i.e., poverty of speech, lack of motivation, flat affect) symptoms. This study discussed acute psychosis and schizophrenia.
Acute psychosis is a common psychiatric emergency while Schizophrenia is a severe and persistent mental disorder that places significant burden on the individuals who suffer from it, as well as their families and society. prevalence of schizophrenia approaches 1 percent internationally.
Social deficits are the core of schizophrenia’s clinical manifestations, recent studies indicate that individuals with schizophrenia show substantial social cognitive impairments in emotional processing (affect perception and regulation), social perception, attributional style, and mentalizing or “Theory of Mind”. Deficits in social cognition appear to be present across different stages of schizophrenia and may also characterize individuals at heightened risk for the development of this disorder, social cognition impairment is preserved when symptoms disappear after the first schizophrenia episode.
