Abstract


Bhang became one of the most common forms of cannabis used m Egypt nowadays. This work was carried out to evaluate the psychiatric, immunological and sexual effects of Bhang dependence.

Forty males diagnosed as Bhang dependents according to DSM IV criteria were studied. Fifteen males diagnosed as Hashish dependents according to DSM IV criteria and matched with Bhang dependents were chosen also for comparison. In addition, 20 healthy males were used as controls.

The three groups (Bhang, Hashish and controls) were subjected to:

(1) Clinical study including physical , psychiatric examination, history of drug use and sexual history.

(2) Psychometric study in the form ofMMPI, Bender Gestalt Test
1 for Short Term Visual Memory, Arabic version of Ekstrom et al's Battery for Cognitive Battery for Associative Memory by.
El-sharkawey et al(1993) and Arabic version of Ekstrom et al's Battery for Cognitive Battery for Perceptual Speed by El­ sharkawey et al(1993)
